The Detroit Tigers already boasted one of the most talented young pitching staffs in the majors, and their offense was not to shabby either, whem last we saw of them. Adding him to a line-up that already features Miguel Ordóñez (.363 avg, 28 hrs, 139 rbi's), Gary Sheffield (25 hrs, 107 runs, 22 steals), Palacido Polanco (.341 avg, 107 runs) and Curtis Grandson (.302 avg, 23 hrs, 122 runs, 26 sbs), and you have the recipe for a World Championship team.

To tell you the truth, I doubt that on paper even the fabled Tiger team of 1984 looked any better. That was a team that bolted out to a 35-5 start, something that Tiger reliever Todd Jones thinks could very well happen all over again. Of course, it is a long way until October, and I am sure there are many teams, including the Red Sox, who will happily disagree with me and say that the season should be played just for giggles. Still, the odds on the Tiger's taking it all, just took a dramatic turn for the better.
